Bainbridge Island Engagement Session | Jesse and Miriam

The perfect PNW coastal engagement session

Jesse and Miriam wanted to plan a super special engagement session, one that was personal to them and their relationship. They had fond memories spending time with their families on Bainbridge island back when they had just started dating. So we hopped on a ferry and headed out for a sunset bainbridge island engagement.

Fun fact: I actually met Jesse + Miriam while I was hiking at Colchuck Lake in Leavenworth. From a distance I saw Jesse get down on one knee. He was proposing! I cheered in the distance and then it dawned on me that I had my camera. So I quickly took out my camera and starting taking photos. I ran over to them and asked if I could take a few more and exchange information.

Tips on traveling to Bainbridge Island

Taking the ferry from Seattle to Bainbridge Island is a popular and scenic way to travel between these two locations. It’s also a perfect opportunity to take a few unique photos on the ferry. If you catch the ferry at the right time, it can really make for some incredible photos at sunset. Keep scrolling to see what I mean 😉

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to take the ferry to Bainbridge Island:

  1. Parking:
    • If you’re driving, consider parking options near the ferry terminal. There are paid parking lots nearby, and street parking may be available.
  2. Purchase Ferry Tickets:
    • Tickets can be purchased at the terminal or online. It’s recommended to buy tickets online, especially during peak hours or busy seasons, to save time and ensure availability. Keep in mind when purchasing your tickets, this is not your reservation.
  3. Check the Ferry Schedule:
    • Ferry schedules can vary, so it’s a good idea to check the Washington State Ferries website or contact them for the latest schedule information. The ferry ride takes approximately 35 minutes.
  4. Arrive Early:
    • Arrive at the ferry terminal well before the scheduled departure time (at least 30 minutes-1 hour), especially during peak travel times. It’s first come first serve and there are no reservations for the Bainbridge island ferry.
  5. Enjoy the Ride:
    • Once on board, hop out of your car and find a comfortable spot and enjoy the scenic journey across Puget Sound. The ferry offers excellent views of the Seattle skyline, Mount Rainier, and the surrounding waterways. This would be the perfect time to take a few of those photos!
  6. Arriving at Bainbridge Island:
    • The ferry will dock at the Bainbridge Island Ferry Terminal. Once you disembark, you’ll find yourself in Winslow, the main town on Bainbridge Island.
  7. Explore Bainbridge Island and find the perfect photo locations:
    • Take the time to explore Bainbridge Island. There are so many places to take beautiful photos on the island, but it is worth staying a full day to really see it all. You can walk around Winslow, visit local shops and restaurants, or enjoy the parks, beaches and waterfronts.
  8. Return Journey:
    • When you’re ready to return to Seattle, simply follow the same steps in reverse. Check the return ferry schedule, arrive early, purchase tickets, and board the ferry.

Bainbridge Island Engagement photos at Fay Park

Jesse and Miriam wanted to find the perfect beach for their engagement photos and Fay Bainbridge park ended up being an incredible spot for golden hour. It was easy to access with tons of parking and amazing views. One thing to keep in mind is that this park gets very busy in the summertime. We were lucky enough to tuck away and find a private spot on the beach!

After spending a good amount of time on Fay park, we headed back to the Bainbridge ferry terminal and somehow managed to hop on right at sunset. With the olympics peaking in the background and the sun making its way behind, the deep orange golden light filled the sky. We could not get over this sunset, it was so beautiful! I will forever suggest a sunset session on the ferry after this wonderful evening with Jesse + Miriam!
