Jesse and Miriam spent their Friday afternoon hiking the 4 miles one way to Colchuck Lake from Stuart Lake Trailhead. They had finally made it over to the South end of the trail where there were tons of boulder fields. While in the middle of enjoying the beautiful landscape, Jesse got down on one knee and proposed. She say YES! She was in complete shock and never expected this coming. What an epic place to propose!

Colchuck lake in the enchantments is a popular destination in the the summertime. It is completely doable in one day finishing at about 10 miles round trip. You’ll want to make sure to download the map and check the elevation gain and loss before you head out as well. You can find the AllTrails map here!

The trail is very well marked, so there is a low chance you could get lost. If you are deciding to backpack to this location, permits are required, especially during the peak season. Make sure to secure your permits well in advance to ensure you have the time and privacy to create a memorable proposal.

2. Choose the perfect location at Colchuck lake

Colchuck lake in the Enchantments offers a plethora of breathtaking spots to propose. Consider your partner’s preferences and choose a location that reflects your relationship and the natural beauty of the area.

3. Timing is everything

Aim for a time when the weather is pleasant and the area is not overly crowded. Sunrise and sunset are excellent times for proposing, as the light adds a magical golden touch to the scenery. If you go more midday, the daylight really does make the blue water pop. During this proposal shown above, it was about 2pm and the water was perfectly blue.

Try to find a secluded spot where you can have privacy and intimacy during the proposal. This will allow you and your partner to fully immerse yourselves in the moment without feeling rushed or observed. Getting to the south side (like Jesse and Miriam did) is not a bad idea. Most hikers stay on the North end because it’s less hiking and the view of Colchuck Peak and the lake is incredible.
