Eloping at Lago di Braies in the Dolomites is a magical experience, and the best months for an unforgettable, serene wedding depend on the atmosphere you’re aiming for. Here’s a breakdown of the best months to elope at this beautiful location, taking into account the weather, scenery, and overall vibe
Pros: The crowds are fewer compared to summer, which means a more intimate experience. The surrounding meadows, forests, and mountains are lush and green, with flowers starting to bloom, providing stunning backdrops for photos.
Cons: The lake might still be a bit cold for boat rides, but the views and serenity are worth it.
Pros: This is the time when the lake and its surroundings are in full bloom, with lush greenery and clear blue waters. The rowboats are available for rent, so you can enjoy a romantic boat ride on the lake. Lastly, hotels, restaurants, and the surrounding area are fully operational with all services available.
Cons: Summer is the peak tourist season, so Lago di Braies can get quite crowded, especially in July and August. If you’re looking for more privacy, this can be a downside. Early mornings or weekdays are the best times to avoid crowds.
Pros: The foliage turns into vibrant shades of gold, red, and orange, making the landscape even more breathtaking and perfect for wedding photos.
The summer tourists start to dissipate, offering a quieter, more peaceful atmosphere while still having all the services available. Temperatures are still pleasant, ranging between 10-18°C (50-64°F), and you can still rent boats for that romantic ride.
Cons: As the month progresses, the weather can cool down, and there’s a chance of rain, especially in late October.
Pros: If you dream of a winter wonderland, this is the time. The lake freezes over, and the snow-covered mountains make for a stunning backdrop for your elopement. With fewer tourists in the winter months, you’ll have more privacy and tranquility. The winter landscape offers a unique, serene atmosphere that contrasts with the typical summer wedding photos.
Cons: Temperatures can drop below freezing, and it can be quite cold, with snow and ice. Many services (such as boat rentals, hotels, and some local businesses) may close or operate on limited hours during the winter months. If you’re looking for a more traditional wedding, be aware that winter can limit your options. Some roads or trails might be closed due to snow, limiting access to certain areas around the lake.
Weather Planning: Always check the weather forecast, as it can change quickly in the Dolomites, especially in fall and spring.
Book Early: If you’re eloping in the summer months, make sure to book accommodations, permits, and any special services (like photography or boat rentals) in advance to avoid the rush.
